Savaria Carnival

 

"Each year in august, in the beautiful city of Szombathely (the Latin correspondent: SAVARIA), Hungary, is organized a Carnaval event where thousands of people come from all around the world. This is an annual Festival which evokes the millenar past of the city of Szombathely. In Szombathely can be seen a part of the ancient road which led from Savaria to Imperial Rome and also the ruins of the Temple of Goddess Isis from Roman time.

Szombathely is worldwide renown not only because of the Carnaval, and of its historical Roman past, but also for being the place where bishop Saint Martin of Tours, one of the most popular Christian Saints, was born. The parade on the streets of the city of the peoples dressed as Romans with torches, in the acclamation of the crowd is a unique spectacle."
